The move is complete

Day one of our 69 day journey to Alaska has started. I can't believe that it's finally that time. Here is a recap of the last couple of days.

Moving day, Tuesday, the day our house would be invaded by people packing all of our worldly possessions into boxes, or so we thought thats what would be happening on Tuesday. I made plans with my mother to take Cailin out of the house so that she wouldn't have fit after fit because all of her things were being packed up. The day started out good and we had high hopes that they would be done by the time she arrived back from her day out with Granny Sue at the zoo and a nice lunch out. Sadly, we were mistaken. Planning out a moving day never goes as it should when it comes to contracted movers. After a few phone calls and some frustration, they showed up right on time, 1:40pm. They worked hard and packed up several rooms, leaving things here and there, and working through the power outages that we had that day cutting the AC off a few times. Had it not been such a hot day it wouldn't have been a big deal but with it being in the 90's, the house started to heat up quickly. After a few hours they decided that they had enough and told us they'd be back tomorrow to finish up. Surely they would arrive earlier since it was only a two day pack out after all. The next day came around and at 11:30am they finally showed up with two guys. No power outages, cooler temps outside but not by much and a lot of things left to pack up made for a very long day for everyone. Cailin had her meltdowns, movers failed to wash their hands after potty breaks, the dog barked all day long and finally more guys showed up to help speed things along. Finally, after the sun had set, we were left in the house with just the trash that needed to be thrown out, two air beds to sleep on, an oven to clean, a kitchen cabinet to be stained in hopes that no one would notice and things to be packed up and hopefully used often on our two month adventure. Tonight we will lay our heads on the pillows provided by the great Comfort Suites of Mount Vernon, IL where we are resting our bones after a sleepless night and early morning. I wish I had taken more pictures of the whole process but honestly, it wasn't that grand and I'm not sure I'll miss that house but there were a lot of good memories made there. I only have a couple of pictures to share and one of them was taken on our way to where we are staying tonight, Mount Pleasant, IL. Tomorrow we venture to Missouri to visit with Grandma and Grandma for some much needed rest, homemade meals, country fresh air, jaunts around the big town of Leabanon and hopefully a shopping trip at the lake or a movie or two.

Very last picture taken at the old house

We decided today while at Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand that Cailin would become a nun. As you can tell she's very excited. We are too.

Until next time

Almost three years

In a couple of very short weeks we will be starting the newest journey of our Army life. We're moving to Anchorage, Alaska. I know what you're thinking. Yes, its cold and dark a lot of the year. I'm bound to slip and as my luck would have it, fall in a pile of moose poo but rest assured my family will laugh. It'll be OK and the unknown is actually the exciting part of this journey. We will be traveling much of the summer as we head to Georgia for school, Missouri to see family, Kansas and Colorado to visit dear friends and then Washington where we will start the last leg of our trip to Alaska. To say that we're excited is an understatement but we're also saddened to leave the family and friends we have made behind.

When we first moved to Kentucky, Cailin was a mere 1 year and 8 months and now she is 4 years old. She's changed a lot as you can see and I can only imagine what the next three years will hold for our family.

Testing....

Testing, testing, 1...2....3... Is this thing on?
